As parents it's common to wonder why your child is still speaking with speech errors when you've heard them say it correctly in the speech room. So here's the thing, most of us don't spend much time thinking about our speech, but let me tell ya it's an intensely intricate and complex process!
Speech is typically spoken at 14 sounds per second and uses nearly 100 muscles. In order to produce speech a person needs to use language skills, auditory processing, phonemic and phonetic awareness, grammar, social skills, and more!
And for a child who is struggling with a language and/or speech sound disorder speaking is really tough! This is why I like to use a strength based approach using small steps in my therapy sessions.
