The best way to really engage a child in therapy is to follow their lead!
Iv'e learned from many years as a therapist that it doesn't matter how cool your toys are or how many themed worksheets you prep, the most successful therapy sessions happen when you follow the child's lead. That means tuning into what they are already engaged in or interested in and using it as an opportunity to build repporte and teach new skills. This takes a whole lot of flexibility, creativity and determination. But the results are so worth it!
