We Need to Zoom out and Look at How the Whole Patient is Functioning

As SLP's we are trained to assess and treat many areas within the mouth. We can sometimes get so focused on our area of expertise that we forget to zoom out and look at the what's going on in the rest of the body. While it may not be within my scope of practice or area of expertise to consider gut issues or back pain, it IS my responsibility to educate myself in these areas so I can consider all symptoms that could be contributing to disfunction and refer out appropriately. We need to be looking at the "whole" person when diagnosing and treating our patients. It's all connected!

How do you feel about this?

Thanks for emphasizing this point in your TOTs course! @chrysalisorofacial1
